Dear Williamstown Independent Families,
Fall has arrived, even though temperatures remain hot outside. The annual Fall Festival has concluded and it was a well-attended, wonderful event, with beautiful weather. Our elementary boosters and staff do a fabulous job with games, food, and auctions to make it a memorable event year after year. Thank you to all who helped with the planning and execution of the event. Fall also means Fall Break is just around the corner. Schools will be closed October12-16 for students and families to enjoy a time of rest and relaxation.
Our schools recently received results from last year’s K-PREP scores. Since the Kentucky Department of Education is going through a transition period with the accountability system, schools and districts were not ranked as they have been in the past. Schools received individual scores in achievement, growth, and other academic indicators. I am excited to announce that our category in all three schools were identified as “Other”, which is the best a school in Kentucky could receive this year. This means, we were not on a list for targeted or comprehensive school improvements. Our ACT scores continue to be one of the top in the state ranking us 13th best amongst the 168 districts. We are so proud of the daily academic achievements of our students and the hard work and dedication our staff put in each day to ensure a safe and healthy learning environment.
Principals, administrators, and teachers have met to review student data and overall scores. Together, we are working on varied instructional strategies, curriculum design, literacy techniques, and other ideas to ensure student success. Our district is fortunate to have a great staff. I encourage all families to attend the Parent/Teacher Conference event scheduled for Tuesday, October 23 from 3:30-7:30 for K-12 students and parents. Be on the lookout for additional information coming home with your child.
Our students continue to shine in extracurricular activities as well. Girls’ golf had a great year with Maddi H. making it to state All “A” Tournament. The WHS Cross Country team has had a stellar year and look to make a superb showing at state and other championships. Volleyball has a winning record and the inaugural varsity soccer season has been extremely positive. They are young, but hang with all teams. Our arts department continues to shine with individual and team achievements thus far. The Band of Spirit will be working to advance to state competition on October 27 with their show, “1,001 Nights”.
It is always an exciting time to be a Demon. Williamstown IS a great school system with a vision of Preparing Students for Productive Citizenship through our mission of Engaging, Educating, and Empowering All Students. Check out our new Portrait of a Graduate and Strategic Plan located under the Board of Education tab on the website. You will learn more about our goals and plans to ensure students have a positive education that will prepare them well for whatever lies ahead in their future.
I am very proud of the accomplishments of our students and staff thus far, and look forward to everyone working together to create many more.
With Demon Pride,
Williamstown Independent Schools
