Principal's Message

Traci Albert, Director of Federal Programs

Traci Albert
Director of Federal Programs

Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Williamstown Head Start/Preschool program.  We still parnter with the Grant County Preschool by serving students in the Grant County and Williamstown districts for Head Start.  It is an honor to be the Dean of Students and the Director of such a wonderful school.  This is the first year that we are all on one campus and I am so excited about the possibilities.  We are able to develop a closer-knit family of staff, students, and families than ever before.

Our Early Childhood programs have qualified educators with an average of 17 years experience as lead teachers.  Our instructional assistants have a minimum of a Child Development Associates (CDA) with an average of 12 years experience.  Together they create a supportive, nuturing environment while providing best practices and innovative approaches to learning centered on KY Early Childhood Standards and the Head Start Early Learning Framework.  We also have a trained classroom assistant to support staff and special needs students.  Regular volunteers compliment our classrooms and services.  We provide a balanced curriculum with a primary focus on intential teaching through play, named "Explore" time.  The five developmental domains (social & emotional, cognitive, physical, self help & adaptive, and language) are the foundational pillars.  A large emphasis on mathemeatics, science, and literacy are planned around these five domains  We also pride ourselves on the arts opportunitites that our students are exposed to through our curriculum.  Students learn about self-expression, creativitiy, and self-esteem through music and visual arts.

Our instructional staff are well supported with a top-notch transportation staff.  Each bus only transports 3 and 4 year children enrolled in our program.  Bus drivers are attentive to students' and families' needs.  A bus monitor rides each route to ensure safety as regulated by both the state and federal government.  All students are required to be in a safety harnass or belt.  Transportation staff are also fully integrated into all aspects of supporting staff and students.  They assist with breakfast and gross motor time in the gym upon morning arrival.  During the middle of the day, transportation staff facilitate lunch for our students.

The management team develops strong partnerships with school and community parnters.  We believe that all stakeholders must be involved to provide a quality program that meets the needs of families and students.  Please contact us at any time if your are interested in  assistance or services.  We partner with families to help with resources for furthering education, employment opportunities, parenting success, budgeting, housing opportunities, ensuring basic needs are met, etc.

So together, my staff and I, are committed to supporting and working with our parents and community.  Thank you for recognizing that children who are enrolled in quality early childhood programs, like Head Start and Preschool, will be better exposed and will have a positive, long-term impact on their social and academic futures.  Thank you for trusting us to be a caring part of your child's growth and development.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Molly McComas - Dean of Students/ Program Director
