Important Safety Announcement - Threat Investigation

Schools across the nation have been subjected to threats of violence in the past year. Since January, there have been over 300 threats in Kentucky schools alone. In the spirit of opened communication and transparency, I would like to make you aware of an alleged verbal threat.

Immediately upon hearing of this threat, an investigation was launched with the help of the Williamstown Police Department. There is no reason to believe any children or staff members are in danger, but we will have additional security on campus next week.

Student safety is the #1 priority for Williamstown Independent Schools. We do not take this lightly and work diligently to make our campus safe.

Please talk with your child about the serious consequences they will face if they say something or write something that can be perceived as a threat.

In addition, it is imperative that if your child sees something or hears something, they tell an adult in the building.

Thank you for your help and your support.

Sincerely,

Misty Middleton
Superintendent
Williamstown Independent Schools

Confirmed Cases of Pertussis (Whooping Cough) In Williamstown District Health Alert Symbol

Williamstown Independent Schools would like to inform families that there have been 4 confirmed cases of pertussis (whooping cough) in our district. Please be mindful of any cough, fever, and runny nose. If present, please follow up with your physician immediately. Even those with a current immunization may contract pertussis. Diagnosis requires a test at the Dr's office. Treatment is typically 5 days of antibiotics, during which time students must stay home from school. The cough may linger after treatment, but is no longer contagious after treatment is complete. Most healthy individuals will fully recover from pertussis, but it is dangerous for infants and those with other health concerns. We ask for your cooperation in decreasing the spread of pertussis in the school community.

For additional info, please contact the Northern KY Health Department at 859-363-2071.
