Remind for Marching Band

 

The WHS "Band of Spirit" Marching Band is a co-curricular ensemble that meets after school.  This ensemble includes woodwinds, brass, percussion, and color guard (flags, rifles, sabre, and dance).  The 2013 BOS was awarded 2013 KMEA Class A 3rd place.  In addition, the 2013 BOS was awarded the 2013 MSBA Class 2A Championship.  The 2014 BOS was awarded the 2014 KMEA Class A State Championship and Governor's Cup for the award winning show, "Galaxy" and the 2014 MSBA Class 3A Runner-up.  The 2015 BOS, with their show ARROW, was awarded KMEA Class A 3rd place and the 2015 MSBA Class 2A 3rd place.  The 2016 BOS, with their show REACH, was awarded KMEA Class A 2nd place.  In addition the 2016 BOS finished as the Bands of America Grand National Class A National Runner-Up.

The 2017 BOS show was entitled "Enchantress" and was the 2017 KMEA Class A East Regional Quarterfinals Champion.  First time since 2009.  And, they extended the BOS consecutive finals appearances to 16, second longest streak in KMEA.  They finished the season in 3rd place at the KMEA State Marching Band Championships in Class A.

Students will have an opportunity to begin the audition process for color guard in February. 

Students interested in participating in the marching band will participate in Spring Training (Every Monday through the end of school beginning in April).

Once individual student participation has been confirmed the drill (formations) will be written.

Students will have a few rehearsals in June.  Color Guard and Percussion Camp will take place one week before Band Camp.  Band Camp will be a 2 week process that lasts from 8a-5p Monday through Friday.  Students will have several rehearsals before the start of the school year.  Once the school year begins, students will have full band rehearsals Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays from 3:30-6:30p.  Sectionals will be held on either Wednesdays or Thursdays.  Students will be given one day off per week, either Wednesdays or Thursdays, based on their sectional schedule.

Competition season begins in September and runs through early November.  The "Band of Spirit" participates in both KMEA and MSBA competitions.

The marching band may also be asked to participate in the Marigold Day Parade and the Christmas Parade.
