There is a $25 class fee for this course.
Attention: Any incoming 5th grade student who is signed up for the 6th Grade Beginning Band does not have to get an instrument over the summer. Once the school year begins in August, students will be given the opportunity to test their skills on all of the instruments. The students will then pick their top three instruments. Once their top three instruments have been chosen, Mr. Hedges will help each individual choose the instrument that will give them the best chance at being successful.
Once this process is completed, the Parents of each student will be given the opportunity to rent an instrument from a local music dealer, purchase a quality instrument, use an older instrument (an instrument that has been used in the past and given to the student....of course, Mr. Hedges would like to inspect these instruments before giving the okay to use.).
We have very few school owned instruments. A small rental fee, $50 (for the entire year) will be assessed for the use of an available school owned instrument. In addittion, the student may have to purchase their own mouthpiece.
All student percussionists are assessed the $50 per year for use and the maintenance of the school instruments in addition to their purchase of a percussion pack from the dealer.
The 6th Grade Beginning Band uses the Essential Elements 2000 method book. This may be purchased from a local music dealer.
Students will wear all orangeblack or a costume for the Spooky Concert. Students will wear festive attire for the Holiday Concert. Students will wear the Orange Band Shirt (will be offered for purchase at $7 later in the year), khaki/tan shorts, and choice of footwear. Students who participate in the WHS Graduation Ceremony will wear all black (appropriate black dress, nice black dress shirt, nice black dress pants, black belt, black socks, and semi-formal black shoes).
