A Message from the Superintendent:
As an Independent School District we owe it to our stakeholders to be responsible stewards of the resources given us. We cannot afford to be wasteful in any area. This includes our facilities operation and specifically our energy expenditures. As leaders in this community we must set a positive example for our students in how we use energy. We must demonstrate this commitment by matching our actions with our classroom teaching.
In 2010 our district formed a cohort with other districts and began utilizing the expertise of an energy manager. Since that time we have implemented our first District Energy Plan and have begun to make changes in our infrastructure for further improvements. Several of you have participated by changing the habits we had around energy utilization.
In 2010 our school district was ranked using the Department of Energy’s Energy Star program in the lower third of schools nationwide on how we used energy. Today we are ranked in the upper third. When we get to the upper 25% we will be eligible for an Energy Star. More important than any award, our energy usage today is 24% lower than it was just two years ago. Operating costs are also correspondingly lower. We have funneled those savings back into the classroom.
All of us can and do make a difference everyday by the choices we make. We have an opportunity to lead the way to wise energy practices for our future.
